A different Blue by Amy Harmon is a sensational novel about growing up, and getting over hardship. It's a tale of a lost soul looking for home, and never finding it. Blue Echohawk is a ninteen years old senior in high school who has a reputation of a slut. Her life has always been miserable, and she dealt with it secretely until a new history teacher arrive to her school, and teach her.

This is not a story about forbidden love, but a marverlous novel about healing, and about looking for these people who matter.

Wilson is Blue's new history teacher. He is wise, and different. He's british, and has an accent that the whole school try to mimic. He's also young, which explains Blue's attraction to him. I also love how he's not perfect. He isn't like most hero's where he will sweep the girl off her feet from the first moment he meets her until the end. No, he's different. Yes, he does help her on so many level, but at the same time he's imperfect which makes him even more likable. He cares about Blue, but at the same time, he's like any guy, can make mistakes.

I also LOVE the fact that Wilson's first name is Darcy (From Pride & Prejudice)! Like seriously?

I am not a history girl, but while reading this book I was very interested in history. I loved Wilson classes, and the fact that there are so many true information. I also appreciate how history was shown from a different angel, and it made me think about it. About civilizations, and about how people throughout history. One of the best feelings I felt while reading this book is that it made me think about many things I've never thought about before.

“What we believe affects our choices, our actions, and subsequently, our lives. The Greeks believed in thier gods, and this belief affected everything else. History is written according to what men believe, whether or not it's true. As the writer of your own history, what you believe influences the paths you take. Do you believe in something that may be a myth? I'm not talking about religious beliefs, per se. I'm talking about things you've told yourself, or things you've been told for so long that you just assume that they are true.”

Blue is one of my most favorite Heroines EVER! She was not a weak girl who was afraid of others judgment, and although she have made so many mistakes throughout the book, I got to like her. She actually became one of my most favorite heroines. She did seem different at first. Very 'slutty', and doesn't care, but by reading, we find out that she didn't do that for lust. I really like her character development, and I was so happy when I read how strong and successful she became. I swear, I was happy as if I was her friend.

“I keep wishing you had had a better life...a different life. But a different life would have made you a different Blue." He looked at me then. "And that would be the biggest tragedy of all.”

“Someone told me once that to create true art you must be willing to bleed and let others watch.”

“Why don't you focus more on what makes you brilliant and less on what makes you angry? You are missing a key element to the story. Maybe the moral of the legend is that we are all carved, created, and formed by a master hand. Maybe we are all works of art.”

One of the best elements of this book is its symbolism. I actually started reading this book with no expectations. I was afraid I might find it a bit boring because I have read 'Making Faces' by Amy Harmon, and it wasn't my cup of tea. However, this books gripped me from the prologue. I was so confused, and I wanted to read more. There were so many plot twists that I didn't even see coming. I loved how Blue dealt with these problems even though some solutions were clearly wrong. It just shows how imperfect she is, and it made the flow of the story more realistic.

This book is NOT about romance only. It's about so many things, about healing, moving on, seeing the positive in life, and growing up! It's about goals, and freedom. History, and even birds (I love the stories). This was a very amazing book that I have laughed so hard while reading. Cried my eyes out with disbelief, and shocked out of my head with the plot twists I was never expecting.

Also, this is very different than other books in this genre. Yes, it dealt with abuse, and very heavy subjects. Most books in this genre, the heroine won't move on from her abusive childhood until 75% of the book. However, this was different because Blue was strong enough. She wanted to build a new life for herself, and although she went through shit to get there, she did it in the end. I was crying at the end of the book because she has changed, and became stronger.

“Regret is just life's aftertaste.”

I have given this book FIVE stars because it actually deserves more than that! WAY MORE! It's a book that can make the reader change their point of view toward life, and that's how strong the message of the book is. I loved every part of it, and I actually wanted to read more; I didn't want it to end!!

“Why don’t you focus on where you’re going and less on where you came from?”
